Fedrigoni wash-off labels

Fedrigoni Self-Adhesives North America has unveiled a new wash-off label designed to facilitate glass bottle reuse in the wine, spirits and craft beer sectors. The solution balances the need for durability in chilled and humid environments with the ability to detach cleanly during the washing process, a decisive step toward more circular packaging models.

At the core of the innovation lies the combination of FW8000 wash-off adhesive and Sorolla H+O WS facestock, materials that ensure premium aesthetics throughout the product’s life while enabling complete removal in alkaline washes at 80°C (176°F). Once detached, bottles are ready to re-enter the production cycle with no adhesive residues, aligning with the sustainability targets increasingly embraced by beverage producers.

Circular design is no longer optional, it’s essential,” said Melissa Harton, Marketing Manager at Fedrigoni Self-Adhesives North America. “With our wash-off solution, wineries and beverage brands can maintain the luxurious look consumers expect while enabling efficient glass reuse and minimising waste.”

The new label can also be integrated into third-party bottle reuse systems, such as Revino, a network that manages the collection, washing, and redistribution of wine bottles. This compatibility reinforces Fedrigoni’s role as an enabler of collaborative circular ecosystems, where material innovation meets logistics efficiency.

The initiative is part of Fedrigoni’s broader commitment to sustainability and digital transformation. Over the past year, the group (which operates 73 production, slitting and distribution sites across 132 countries) has entered a multiyear partnership with Palantir Technologies to enhance stock optimisation and demand forecasting, while also investing in Papkot, a start-up developing paper coating technologies that replicate the properties of plastic.

With the launch of the wash-off label, Fedrigoni consolidates its position among the key innovators in circular packaging for premium beverages, offering a tangible response to the industry’s growing need for reusable and recyclable materials without compromising design or brand perception.
