ReKeepeat, the new single-material PET food packaging developed by Coexpan and Emsur, divisions of Grupo Lantero, is now available. This innovation aims to revolutionize the sector with a pragmatic approach: maximum recyclability, zero compromise on performance.

In an increasingly sustainability-oriented market driven by new European directives (PPWR), ReKeepeat responds to a crucial challenge: combining high barrier properties with a simple structure compatible with PET mechanical recycling flows. The result is packaging designed for fresh, ready-to-eat products, capable of replacing multilayer solutions that are more difficult to process at the end of their life cycle.

ReKeepeat stands out for its ability to offer an oxygen barrier comparable to traditional multilayers, but without using EVOH or other polymers that are not compatible with mechanical recycling. This is made possible by an internally developed coating technology that protects the food while keeping the packaging fully integrated into standard recycled PET (rPET) streams.

This innovation meets a dual need: on the one hand, it guarantees the protection of fresh and ready-to-eat products, which require high technical performance; on the other hand, it simplifies the packaging structure to promote circularity, in line with the principles of Design for Recycling. The choice of PET is not accidental. According to market data, PET is one of the few plastics to have developed a well-established recycling infrastructure, with a growing availability of food-grade rPET.

However, the ability to maintain this active and efficient supply chain depends on the industry’s ability to design compatible packaging right from the design stage. In this sense, ReKeepeat is a virtuous example of applied innovation. In addition to its recyclability, the ReKeepeat project is also a modular platform: it can be adapted to different types of formats and packaging, both for the retail and foodservice sectors.

This makes it competitive not only from an environmental point of view, but also from an industrial and economic perspective. With ReKeepeat, Grupo Lantero strengthens its position as a key player in the transition towards more sustainable packaging, focusing on vertical integration, applied research, and responsible innovation.
