The countdown is over: today, Thursday, 5 February, Paris Packaging Week opens its doors at Paris Expo Porte de Versailles, bringing the packaging industry together at a pivotal moment: the shift from “sustainability ambition” to regulatory delivery, led by the EU’s Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR)

According to the organisers, the 2026 edition will host 930 exhibitors, 192 speakers, and welcome 12,000+ visitors from over 100 countries, for a total of almost 18,000 attendees, spanning aerosols, beauty, premium drinks and luxury, all markets now under increasing pressure to prove recyclability, circularity and data-ready packaging compliance.

PPWR: from policy headline to design brief

The event’s message is clear: PPWR is not just a compliance hurdle, it is already shaping materials choices, pack architecture and innovation priorities. The official press release points to one trend becoming highly visible on the show floor: simplification. Lighter structures, mono-material solutions, and easily separable components designed to make circularity achievable at scale.

For visitors, this is where Paris Packaging Week becomes practical: not “what does PPWR say?”, but “How is PPWR changing the packaging industry?”

Refill, reuse, and compliance under the spotlight

Two programme elements stand out for anyone tracking regulation-driven innovation:

  • Refill & Reuse Zone (new for 2026): a dedicated area showcasing reusable systems, alternative materials and data-led approaches positioned as direct responses to PPWR requirements.
  • Circular Economy Stage: part of a programme featuring 150+ expert-led conferences, with sessions designed to “decode” PPWR implications for circularity, regulation and resource efficiency, especially in premium and luxury.

The opening morning includes a high-level PPWR session with participation from EUROPEN and France’s Conseil National de l’Emballage (CNE), reflecting the need for shared interpretations and harmonised implementation across markets.

Why this edition matters for the packaging supply chain

PPWR has moved into execution: it is published as Regulation (EU) 2025/40 and is reported by industry bodies as having entered into force on 11 February 2025, meaning the conversation is now about timelines, delegated acts, evidence, and scalable technical pathways. In this scenario, Paris Packaging Week is positioning itself as the place to pressure-test what “future-proof” looks like in Packaging, across:

  • materials and barrier choices
  • pack simplification and recyclability-by-design
  • refill/reuse models
  • data, AI and specification management as enablers of compliance and speed-to-market

What to expect from this edition?

We can expect a show built around actionable innovation: real-world PPWR-ready solutions, clearer claims backed by data, and packaging concepts designed to move from prototype to scale. From refill and reuse models to smarter recyclability-by-design choices, this year’s Paris Packaging Week should make it easier to connect the dots between regulation, design and supply chain execution.

If you’re shaping packaging strategy for 2026–2030, this is the place to be. Come to compare approaches, challenge suppliers, and leave with ideas you can actually implement plus the contacts to make them happen. But walk the halls with a plan: otherwise, the abundance of information and choice could be overwhelming…

Enjoy your PPW Experience!
