Nestlé continues its drive towards sustainable packaging by replacing plastic with paper-based alternatives across more product lines. The latest update comes from Nestlé Dessert, which has introduced paper stickers to replace traditional plastic ones, an apparently simple change that cuts plastic use by 34 tonnes per year, according to the company.

This move is part of a broader strategy by Nestlé to reduce its environmental impact through packaging innovation. In 2024, the company announced a significant milestone with 81% of its plastic packaging already recyclable. It also launched a series of paper-based packaging solutions for brands such as Nesquik, Yes! snack bars, and Smarties, transitioning many of them to fully recyclable paper formats. In particular, last year Nestlé introduced the first paper refill pack for Nescafé Gold Blend that can be easily recycled.

The recent update underlines Nestlé’s ongoing commitment to sustainable packaging. By switching to paper stickers, produced in collaboration with packaging specialists, the company is reducing plastic waste at scale without compromising product branding or packaging integrity. It’s a reminder that even minor components of a package can have a major environmental impact.

Nestlé is not alone. Many renewed Food brands are also embracing paper-based formats, from labels and wraps to cartons. These industry shifts reflect growing consumer demand for recyclable, plastic-free alternatives and stricter regulatory pressure across the food industry.

For Nestlé, sustainability is not just a marketing point: it’s a core strategy. Through small but impactful steps like eliminating plastic stickers, the company reinforces its long-term goal: making 100% of its packaging recyclable or reusable by 2025.
