In a bold move toward sustainable innovation, the popular merchandise retailer Target has unveiled a new private-label wine brand—Collective Good—featuring packaging made almost entirely from recycled paper. The wines, available in four internationally sourced varieties, come in Frugal Bottles, a lightweight and fully recyclable paper bottle alternative that slashes carbon emissions by up to 84% compared to traditional glass.

Developed by British sustainable packaging company Frugalpac, the bottles are made from 94% recycled cardboard with a food-grade liner and are five times lighter than glass, significantly reducing emissions from production and transport. The launch, timed with Earth Month, underscores Target’s ongoing commitment to more sustainable store-brand packaging across its food and beverage portfolio.

Each Collective Good bottle features minimalist design and clear sustainability messaging, aligning with evolving consumer preferences for low-impact, responsibly made products. Beyond the packaging, the wines are priced affordably, reinforcing the brand’s mission to make sustainability more accessible.

With this launch, Target joins a growing list of retailers experimenting with alternative formats to curb packaging waste — signaling a turning point in how large retailers approach premium packaging design. Now, it’s up to the final audience: will these innovative paper bottles win over wine lovers?
