Ferrero Rocher new boxes

Ferrero’s last Sustainability Report confirms substantial progress in its journey towards more sustainable packaging and supply chains. The company announced that 92.1% of its packaging is now designed to be recyclable, a major step toward its target of 100% by 2025. Overall, more than 90% of its materials are reusable, recyclable or compostable, underlining a firm alignment with circular economy goals.

This achievement is supported by tangible actions across key brands. In North America and China, Ferrero Rocher boxes have been converted from polystyrene to polypropylene, saving an estimated 11,000 tonnes of plastic. The launch of Nutella Plant-Based featured jars made with 60% recycled glass, while Kinder Joy introduced new paper spoons as part of its ongoing plastic reduction roadmap. These initiatives contributed to a 13% decrease in the plastic-to-product ratio, showing how design innovation can effectively cut virgin plastic use while maintaining product quality and safety.

Beyond packaging, the report outlines wider progress across Ferrero’s sustainability strategy. More than 90% of agricultural ingredients are now traceable, reinforcing supply chain transparency and responsible sourcing. Meanwhile, supply chain CO₂ emissions have been reduced by 21.7% compared to the 2018/19 baseline, confirming that climate action is being embedded into operational decisions.

Collaboration remains central to Ferrero’s approach. The group continues to work with industry partners, consortia and regulators to develop scalable recycling solutions and harmonized labelling practices. By focusing on consumer education, Ferrero aims to close the gap between packaging design and real recycling outcomes.

As European regulations on packaging and packaging waste tighten, Ferrero is positioning itself ahead of the curve. By combining R&D investments, material innovation and stakeholder partnerships, the company demonstrates how sustainability can be integrated with brand identity and long-term growth.

With over 92% of packaging now recyclable, major reductions in plastic use, and a clear roadmap toward its 2025 goals, Ferrero reinforces its determination to lead on packaging sustainability. These steps show how the group is not only redesigning its packaging portfolio, but also reshaping the way consumers engage with it: balancing convenience, quality and environmental responsibility.
